Medical & lifestyle consultation – we will start your appointment by talking to you about your lifestyle and how your hearing loss is affecting you.
We take the time to understand your concerns before establishing the listening environments you would like to improve upon. These may be social or work environments that are important to you, or perhaps using your phone, television, or the radio at home.
Where relevant, we will also discuss your experience with tinnitus and how this is affecting you.
We may ask you to complete a hearing questionnaire before your appointment. This gives you time to think about the hearing problems you have experienced and how they affect your wellbeing, as well as providing a useful starting point for our discussions.
Ear health – examinations are completed using video otoscopy and tympanometry to test the physical condition and function of your outer, middle, and inner ear.
Hearing thresholds – will assess your hearing sensitivity using pure tone audiometry. This checks for the softest sounds you can hear across the frequency range, and will confirm whether you have a hearing loss and, if so, to what degree.
Speech in noise – this test will confirm how well you can hear in noisy situations, giving us a good indication of how well you would do in noise with good hearing aid intervention.
Hearing summery and recommendations – finally, we will take the time to fully explain our findings. Taking your individual lifestyle needs and hearing test results into account will allow us to recommend the most appropriate treatment options.
If you could benefit from hearing aids, we will offer you a demonstration of your recommended hearing aid and give you the information to make an informed decision on the best solution for you, including our honest and impartial advice on any compromises associated with various hearing aid style, performance, and cost considerations. We know that getting hearing aids can be a big commitment, so there is no pressure to purchase on the day.
If required, we will also explain and make any referrals to other medical professionals for you.
